november 2012

I finally finished the elearning quiz and did really badly because I'm terribly blind. And it's not an excuse!!! I was like wtf when I did the first quiz and scored really badly.

Sooooo, finally updating about some giant milestones in my life heh.
The Laos OCIP trip promised us 50 new experiences exclusive to the farm.
However, I'm just going to do these 50 things (or attempt to) for the things I've experienced during the trip.

day 1- plane to laos!

1. first trip overseas without my parents for more than 2 days. The last trip was the failed sec 4 camp in malaysia.

2. tried waraku pasta. super yummmyyy fried tofu bits in the centre seriously but I had a food coma.

3. sat on lao airlines. It's surprisingly comfortable and spacious and empty which is what I hope for in most airlines *cough*AIRCHINA*cough*

4. lived in a hotel with a friend. sounds scandalous.

day 2- arrived in farm!
5. saw the fluffiest white clouds in the bluest blue skies in Laos

 6. lived on a farm. The chickens on the farm go cluck cluck cluck. The cows go moo moo moo. Actually they didn't when I moo-ed to them.

7. ate meals with a thousand bugs staring at me.
8. went to the toilet with a thousand bugs staring at me. hi beetle.

9. slept on the top deck of a bunk bed with a thousand bugs waiting to drop into my mouth. this is real.

10. tried laos cuisine. these are some noodles. Tasted interesting. Like non-spicy tomyum if it makes sense.

day 3- farm work!
so much sweatiness yucks.
11. picked green beans. that's me yeap.

12. picked black beans. they have bigger pods than green beans.

13. sort out black beans. super boring but i liked it cause I was tired then.

14. got poked by weeds which are bleddy annoying!!!

15. fed goats. goats really go MEHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

16. saw awesome sunsets.

day 4- half day of farm+ english lesson 1

17. successfully folded a paper crane after a thousand years! It doesn't look that crane-ish, I know.

18. interacted with the first batch of awesome lao students! Sadly, my students did not understand me AT ALL!!!!

19. sat on the back of the truck. most spectacular view ever. the wind was super awesome even though the dust was overwhelming. I would quote perks and say that we were infinite. I loved all my truck rides to bits!!!

day 5- english lessons part 2+ pe lessons
20. taught the lao students how to dance head shoulders knees and toes and finally learnt how it ends lol. We also taught them hokey pokey! :)

21. learnt my favourite lao song/dance haha. it's called mosquito tree. here's a picture of the guys in action hahaha.

22. took pictures with one of my students. she's super pretty oh my goodness *_*

23. taught the students how to play captain's ball. lol our sports quite failed so uhm.

24. played captain's ball in an open field! It feels super awesome and free and I finally understood what my parents talked about playing in the kampong!

25. tried jackfruit flavour london choco roll. so technically it's no longer a choco roll lol.

26. bathed with a showerhead which literally DRIPS water. I was the only one who showered in the second floor bathroom because I was okay with the trickling water and lack of water heater. On the last day, I managed to convince myself that it is therapeutic and I should do it for the last time. Guess what?

27. experienced for the first time that the water stopped while showering. not the worst thing.

28. burnt my face using my facial cleaner which had salicylic acid because I couldn't rinse my face fml.

31. had to wash my face with my water bottle.

32. on a positive note, stayed up until 2am to talk to the bunk girls!

day 6- cultural exchange with Ban Pakton!

33. cultural exchange dance+ mass dance for the lao students! Look at our awkward 'we're all in this together' poses.

34. received flower garlands for the first time! :) or second. can't really remember haha. here's another picture with my student heh.

35. had teachers cooking for us lol. quite nice :) The soup was some kind of moringa leaf soup. Tasted very interesting!

36. took awesome jumpshots for my friends. I failed like a hundred times but this picture of nicola is the most successful one!

37. as well as group shots. g12 is super awesome camera can. go buy it and i swear you'll be an awesome photographer haha.

bidding goodbye to the farm and hello Vientiane!
quite sad and panicky because we had to make sure we packed everything!

38. walked along mekong river. it's a river that connects laos and thailand.

 39. visited a night market in laos. bought a couple of loots and drank 1USD strawberry milkshake defug.

40. headed for dinner in an indian restaurant owned by singaporeans. they had tomyum soup -.- not indian but the fish was super good though =D

day 7- Sightseeing
pretty boring ._. would rather go back to the farm but at least it's more uhm modern here.

41. visited buddhist temples in laos. the architecture is great!

42. tried super awesome cornetto for around SGD1! It's like UGH SUPER CHEAPPP.

43. for lunch, had supposedly atas laos food which looks like chinese food seriously. look at the pictures!!
sticky rice is pretty yummy and is similar to QQ rice.

 44. visited the only shopping mall in Laos. LIKE NO JOKE. Like it's the most developed. Learnt that they have no movie cinemas in Laos. That's why most people take a boat to thailand for shopping and all.

45. Tried laos atas coffee. This is the butterscotch coffee ice blended for less than 3 bucks seriously. It's super yummy but fattening!

They had a swing in store too! This is a picture of the girls before the swing broke HAHHAA.

46. witnessed something apocalypse worthy lol. It was the sunset and I have no idea what these are.

47. had yummy mexican food in laos for dinner. this is a beef lasagna!! SUPER SINFUL BUT YUMS.
The cupcakes were DELISH as well! Especially the chocolate ones! Super dense *_*

 48. we had a chance to talk to international students staying in laos.

49. after heading back to the hotel, we stayed up until 3am to hotel room party lol.
we took a lot of lame videos such as the emergency video as well as music videos!!! Best night ever :')

day 8- bye Vientiene, hello singapore.
nothing much except for walking around the mall again before heading to the airport to wait for a few hours.

50. had a row all to myself on the plane!

what was cool was that we saw the rotarians in the airport and they took the same flight back! TALK ABOUT FATE!!!!

btw i learnt how to play bridge but i shall cheat now by not including it in the list.
also developed a crazy taste for butter sugar crossaints. LIKE SERIOUSLYYY NOTHING IS BETTER THAN THAT.

So that's all for Laos!

Now moving on to the job attachment.
The job attachment wasn't anything spectacular but it was cool to see so many big shots around.
Like the head of organisations.
RICH PEOPLE EVERYWHERE.
I got to be a lucky draw girl lololol. Quite epic. I was basically holding onto a glass bowl and waiting for the VIP to draw the winner. Thought i would get a tip but I didn't :'(

The attachment didn't really expose me to the aspect of the job. We were basically just acting as temp staff. :( But I did see how such a major event worked and how networking works. So I guess I sort of learnt how to build connections?
Here's a picture of Hotel Fort Canning. Took it when I was acting as a direction sign -.-

Met with chloe and fangyuan for tomyum after that! LIKE FINALLY FINALLY! Really wanted to have it before I went to Laos. Chloe surprised me with a gift from trixie and her. I was like OMGWTFBBQ. Finally a gift I like lol.
THANKS SO MUCH TRINISHA AND CHLOE =D

So that's all for the cool happenings this month.
Now, I need to come up with a quote for Ms Teoh on community service while watching Bunheads.
